Let us assume that we use Nano2 stations and two PhDs to do the scientific measurements. Dr. Elektra found the battery was flat! adding a third doctor to the experiment.

The consumption of the unit is 0.25 A (WEP encrypted) and 0.23 A (non encrypted). Voltage 12.35 V

So we are talking about a roughly 3 Watts unit (6A/day). Assuming an autonomy of 3 days and 50% depth of discharge in the battery, every NS2 needs 36 Ah.

Assuming two NS2 stations per node (one access network and one core). For a place like South Africa (4 sun peak hours/worst month). A solar panel of 50 Wp (Kyocera) provides 3.11 A (12.44 Ah/day worse month)

The price tag:

- Panel 50 Wp (@ 5 USD/Wp) = 250 USD

- Charger (10A) = 40 USD

- NS2 (2 x 70) = 140 USD

- 50 A battery = 80 USD

TOTAL: 510 USD

We need to add enclosure, extra antennas, poles, brackets, grounding??, civil work.

Open-Mesh Power Consumption

LAN, Wifi running, 5.2V power supply, 600mA peak Power = (5.2)(0.6)= 3.12W
